Plastic Straws – A film in the works

Upcycled curved glass straws

A Film in the works about Plastic Straws

Are you aware of how many plastic straws are used in a day?  Or how they affect the environment?  Have you ever seen what happens when sea creatures get plastic stuck on them or in them?  There is a documentary that is in the works at the moment that tells you a little bit about those things and more.

STRAWS: a documentary film for a sea of change

By Linda Booker

We are really excited about this film.  It seems as though some people have no clue about how many plastic straws are used in a day.  We have been asked many times “What’s so bad about plastic straws?” and when we tell them how many are used in a day and really draw a picture of what that looks like they then say “Wow…I had no idea.  That is a problem.”  This film is really important for the awareness of plastic straw pollution.

We are very happy to say that we are a proud supporter of this film.  We donated some of our Elegant Curves glass straws as well as our Sea Turtle Love glass straws.  The Sea Turtle Love glass straw was created for some backers of the Kickstarter for the film.  If you haven’t checked out the Kickstarter campaign here is the link STRAWS Kickstarter Campaign.   Check the link out and if you can donate.  There are some really cool rewards when you donate.

Here is the link to their website, Check it out  http://www.strawsfilm.com/

Much love to you all!  We hope that your summer adventures are treating you well and that you help reduce the plastic straw pollution by saying “No thank you” to those plastic straws.  Bring your own straw!  Glass, steel or bamboo straws are all better than plastic.

Newest addition to the Glass Straw Family

Meet the newest member of the Glass Straw Family!

Newest member of the glass straw family - Aurora Alis
Newest member of the glass straw family – Aurora Alis

Aurora Alis

Just wanted to share with you the newest member of our glass straw family.  Once she is big enough and needing a straw it will be Glass Straws all the way.

On March 1 at 12:59pm Aurora Alis was brought into this wonderful world.  She was scheduled for March 10 but she couldn’t wait that long.  We all had this feeling that she wasn’t going to wait.  She was ready to be held in our arms instead of the womb.  She is now 11 days old and doing great!

Aurora is a healthy little baby girl.  When she was born she was 8 pounds and 21.5 inches long.  She just had a check up at her doctors and she is now 8 pounds 6 ounces.  And since she is doing so well she doesn’t have to go back until her 2 month check up.  We couldn’t be happier.

The Joy of Raising a Baby

We’re glad you joined our family,
Yet some things make us wonder;
How can a little package like you
Have a voice that’s loud as thunder?

You are so small and oh so cute,
But you are never very shy,
For whenever you want something brought to you,
You just open your mouth and cry.

First you moved on hands and knees,
Then you were up on your feet.
We’re chasing you all around the house;
We’re tired; we need a retreat!

Your food is smeared over the table;
Your food is on the floor;
Seems the only place food didn’t go,
Is in the baby we adore.

Diapers here and diapers there,
Stinky… smelly… Whew!
Diapers would have done us in,
If we didn’t love you as we do.

We’re glad you joined our family,
You’re a unique and wonderful treasure.
So, despite the work of raising you,
Being your parents is a total pleasure!

Much love to you all!!

Summer Time!!

Summer is here!!

The sun is out and the water is cool, Summer is here!  Time to go to the beach or river, pack a picnic basket with an organic lunch and eco friendly glass straws, and soak up some sun. Plan a trail hike or or a lazy day at the lake. How about a relaxing camping trip or a fun concert festival? All of our customers are taking thier glass straws to summer events, concerts, fairs, and  Burning Man!

Don’t forget the water!  Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.  And remember to bring your glass straws along with you.  This way you don’t have to use plastic straws when you are out.  And if you have a case for your straws then you can protect your glass straws and keep them clean. Remember to bring enough to trade or gift with your friends!

We hope you all have a safe and fun Summer.  Don’t forget to pick up your trash when you leave your places of fun.

This article from OurNationalParks.us shows just how much of an impact you can have!

According to Dana Soehn, volunteer coordinator for the park, volunteers spent 3,410 hours exclusively on litter patrol projects last year.

“We also spent another 4,518 hours cleaning up our backcountry trails and campsites and then another 3,352 hours on special patrols in the backcountry where we had to recover large amounts of litter left behind by unprepared hikers,” said Soehn. “Not only do the VIPs [volunteers in-park] help our park look better, but they also help us protect both the terrestrial and aquatic habitats, making them a cleaner, healthier environment.”

We hope that you like the new layout as much as we do!  It’s not up yet but soon.

I will definitely keep you all posted.

We also are expecting baby goats in two weeks!!  Our goat Dancer is pregnant and we are hoping to have 2 kids.  🙂  Then a month later Godiva is due, a month after that Cola!  I love it!  So many goat kids will be running around being all cute.  Pictures will be up on the new glass straws website once they are here.

Lets Love the Earth even more this Month!

Earth Day!!

Earth day is approaching us and we want to help everyone be a little more Eco-Friendly.  We are offering a Free Straw with every order on our website!  All you have to do is enter “Earth Promo” into the comments to seller on PayPal.
By ordering a Glass Straw you will begin to help rid the planet of Plastic Straws!!  Plastic straws are everywhere you go.  And sometimes the waiter or waitress will automatically just put one in your drink without you asking.  Now if you had a Glass Straw you would be able to say “No Thank You, I have my own straw” and just smile.  By doing that you have just stopped at least one plastic straw going into a landfill.  Every straw counts and the more you do it the more those plastic straws add up and you really are making a huge difference.
Now is the time to try a Glass Straw and get on board with ridding the planet of plastic!!
Just say “No” to Plastic!!
Check out our website
Soon we will have a new layout for our website too!!  Be prepared for a change.  🙂
Much Love!!

Goat barn at DrinkingStraws.Glass

Goat barn
The Goat Barn is done!!

Goat barn is done and the goats in are in and they are loving it.  There is so much room for them to run around it is just awesome.  We still have some little adjustments that need to be made but we didn’t know until we had the goats in there to see just what they do.
It feels really good to finally have that project done and the goats in a good home.  Three of the girls are pregnant and so we need to make sure we have Birthing areas for them.  It is a Goat Palace!

Glass Straw? What would I drink with them….

Glass Straw? What would I drink with that?

Glass Straw?  I was just doing a little online research this evening and I came across this article that I found interesting.  It tells you 6 Drinks for Glass Straws. Its a fun little read and I suggest reading it.  Made me have to go fill up my Glass Jar with some Water and put my Glass Straw in it.  I love just sitting on the couch surfing the net looking for cool finds.

I hope you enjoy the read as well.  And I would love to know what you like to drink with your Glass Straw.  Go to our Facebook page and let us know.  🙂

**Please think about how many plastic straws you have used in your lifetime already.  Now is the time to do something about it and get an alternative.  Glass straws are a great way to do just that!
