Summer is here and the markets have started with Urban Craft Uprising.
Oh goodness Seattle! Thank you for a great weekend once again. We were a part of the Urban Craft Uprising part of the Seattle Street Food Festival. All the wonderful food trucks in once place so you can try it all. And of course one of our favorites, Soda Jerk with the Lemon Lavender drink. We didn’t need to worry about needing a straw since we always have our Glass Straws with us.
We were in town from Saturday through Sunday. Since the ban on plastic straws has it Seattle it was interesting to see all the different responses. Some people still had no idea. That had a lot to do with the fact that there were still a lot of plastic straws floating around. So this weekend was spent not only helping people pick out the right glass straw and case for them but also talking about single use plastic pollution.
Just wanted to share with you the newest member of our glass straw family. Once she is big enough and needing a straw it will be Glass Straws all the way.
On March 1 at 12:59pm Aurora Alis was brought into this wonderful world. She was scheduled for March 10 but she couldn’t wait that long. We all had this feeling that she wasn’t going to wait. She was ready to be held in our arms instead of the womb. She is now 11 days old and doing great!
Aurora is a healthy little baby girl. When she was born she was 8 pounds and 21.5 inches long. She just had a check up at her doctors and she is now 8 pounds 6 ounces. And since she is doing so well she doesn’t have to go back until her 2 month check up. We couldn’t be happier.
The Joy of Raising a Baby
We’re glad you joined our family,
Yet some things make us wonder;
How can a little package like you
Have a voice that’s loud as thunder?
You are so small and oh so cute,
But you are never very shy,
For whenever you want something brought to you,
You just open your mouth and cry.
First you moved on hands and knees,
Then you were up on your feet.
We’re chasing you all around the house;
We’re tired; we need a retreat!
Your food is smeared over the table;
Your food is on the floor;
Seems the only place food didn’t go,
Is in the baby we adore.
Diapers here and diapers there,
Stinky… smelly… Whew!
Diapers would have done us in,
If we didn’t love you as we do.
We’re glad you joined our family,
You’re a unique and wonderful treasure.
So, despite the work of raising you,
Being your parents is a total pleasure!
The sun is out and the water is cool, Summer is here! Time to go to the beach or river, pack a picnic basket with an organic lunch and eco friendly glass straws, and soak up some sun. Plan a trail hike or or a lazy day at the lake. How about a relaxing camping trip or a fun concert festival? All of our customers are taking thier glass straws to summer events, concerts, fairs, and Burning Man!
Don’t forget the water! Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. And remember to bring your glass straws along with you. This way you don’t have to use plastic straws when you are out. And if you have a case for your straws then you can protect your glass straws and keep them clean. Remember to bring enough to trade or gift with your friends!
We hope you all have a safe and fun Summer. Don’t forget to pick up your trash when you leave your places of fun.
This article from OurNationalParks.us shows just how much of an impact you can have!
According to Dana Soehn, volunteer coordinator for the park, volunteers spent 3,410 hours exclusively on litter patrol projects last year.
“We also spent another 4,518 hours cleaning up our backcountry trails and campsites and then another 3,352 hours on special patrols in the backcountry where we had to recover large amounts of litter left behind by unprepared hikers,” said Soehn. “Not only do the VIPs [volunteers in-park] help our park look better, but they also help us protect both the terrestrial and aquatic habitats, making them a cleaner, healthier environment.”
From us here at DrinkingStraws.Glass, We are all excited here for the new layout of the new website. Something fresh and new, that is a little bit more our style. We found an awesome web designer who just so happens to be someone we know. That is even better. We like to keep it Local as much as we can.
We hope that you like the new layout as much as we do! It’s not up yet but soon.
I will definitely keep you all posted.
We also are expecting baby goats in two weeks!! Our goat Dancer is pregnant and we are hoping to have 2 kids. 🙂 Then a month later Godiva is due, a month after that Cola! I love it! So many goat kids will be running around being all cute. Pictures will be up on the new glass straws website once they are here.
Much love to you all. And remember right now we are offering a Free Straw with every order. We love you all that much and the Earth.
Goat barn is done and the goats in are in and they are loving it. There is so much room for them to run around it is just awesome. We still have some little adjustments that need to be made but we didn’t know until we had the goats in there to see just what they do.
It feels really good to finally have that project done and the goats in a good home. Three of the girls are pregnant and so we need to make sure we have Birthing areas for them. It is a Goat Palace!
Glass Straw? I was just doing a little online research this evening and I came across this article that I found interesting. It tells you 6 Drinks for Glass Straws. Its a fun little read and I suggest reading it. Made me have to go fill up my Glass Jar with some Water and put my Glass Straw in it. I love just sitting on the couch surfing the net looking for cool finds.
I hope you enjoy the read as well. And I would love to know what you like to drink with your Glass Straw. Go to our Facebook page and let us know. 🙂
The three girl Goats are settling in just fine here at DrinkingStraws.Glass. The first couple of days we made sure to keep them inside the pen so they wouldn’t wonder off. A new place is always scary and we live in the woods and so they could easily get lost. I’m a worrier. Lol.
The other day we left them run free for a few and they did great! They didn’t wonder off and just were stoked to run free. When it was time for them to come inside they came in without a fight.
Another positive note is that they aren’t as scared of us anymore!! Now when we come to say “Hello” they greet us. (they also think we have a yummy treat for them, lol)
We did have a scare the other day though. They found the Rhododendron bush and decided to munch on it. Well, that will kill them if not treated in time. We were up until at least 1:30 am making sure Godiva was feeling better. All 5 goats ate some but only a few were sick, Godiva was the worst.
I, Kattie, decided to cut down all them bushes! Our goats will no longer be tempted to eat them! So now if we are up till 1 am it will be for another reason. :p
Head on over to our Facebook page and enter our giveaway. We have 4 clear glass straws with 2 Heart accent glass straws that are for grabs. All you have to do is a few simple things. And there is even a chance at an additional entry. 🙂
I hope to see some fresh new faces. I love people and reaching out. And the best part for me is to give you stuff!! I love FREE!!!
No plastic straw for Audri!! It really helps when you bring your own straw to remember not to use plastic straws. Audri doesn’t get much soda so when we go out she gets to sport her glass straw while she drinks her soda.
Even at 14 years old she sees the impact that plastic straws make.
Did you know that there are 500 MILLION Plastic Straws that are used daily in the US? Yep, that’s true and very sad. If we all work together we can make a difference. Get a reusable alternative and say good-bye to those gross plastic straws once and for all!
What a day! I was running a little bit behind and was worried that I had missed all the action in Tacoma at the Wedding Expo. But sure enough, I didn’t. This was my first Expo and so I had no idea what to expect. It was Awesome!!!
I didn’t have a booth and so I just walked around seeing what was there and talked to as many people as I could. Finding out what they did along with tell them why I was there. I was not too surprised to see that there were NO Glass Straws anywhere. The response I got from everyone was amazing. I definitely want to get a booth next time, not only to see all the cool folks that come in but to have more time with the other vendors.
There were so many cool vendors there that I wanted to get married again/renew my vows just so I could maybe have some of them at my wedding. Even though there were many photographers there I was struck by a few of them. I just wish I could remember their names!!! Names are so hard for me….
